This is a fantastic opportunity to enjoy the beauty and the famous scenery of the AMALFI COAST.
Once your English speaking driver picks you up, you will start with a visit of RAVELLO, small village on the sea in the province of Salerno, very famous among artists who have always been attracted by its beautiful architecture and historical villas. The town has served historically as a destination for artists, musicians and writers. A famous festival of arts and music, popularly known as the "Wagner Festival", is held in the town of Ravello every summer. The festival has been held yearly since 1953 when the town fathers decided to use the historical fact of the visit to Ravello in 1880 by German composer Richard Wagner as a way to promote tourism and bolster the economy of the area in the difficult years following the Second World War.
Later you will be visiting AMALFI, a small town in the gulf of Salerno, lying at the the mouth of a deep ravine, at the feet of Monte Cerreto, surrounded by dramatic cliffs and coastal scenery. First mentioned in the 6th century, Amalfi soon acquired importance as a maritime power, trading grain from its neighbours, salt from Sardinia and slaves from the interior, and even timber, in exchange for the gold dinars minted in Egypt and Syria, in order to buy the Byzantine silks that it resold in the West. At the same time, Merchants of Amalfi were using gold coins to purchase land in the 9th century, while most of Italy worked in a barter economy. Amalfi used to be an independent republic from the 7th century until 1075 and it rivalled Pisa and Genoa in its domestic prosperity and maritime importance before the rise of Venice.
You will also have the opportunity to stop in POSITANO,one of the most beautiful places in southern Italy with its designer boutiques, shops and seaside cafes. Positano used to be a port of the Amalfi Republic in medieval times, and prospered during the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. By the mid-nineteenth century, right after the war, the small town was going through very hard times… most of the population emigrated to America. Positano was a relatively poor fishing village during the first half of the twentieth century. It began to attract large numbers of tourists in the 1950s, especially after John Steinbeck published his essay about Positano in Harper's Bazaar in May, 1953: "Positano bites deep", Steinbeck wrote. "It is a dream place that isn’t quite real when you are there and becomes beckoningly real after you have gone."
